The river Spree floats peacefully between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. On the one side of the Elsenbrücke you can sit in the green Treptower Park. On the other side it is not so green anymore. This is where the conflicts start. From here up to the Jannowitzbrück you find the area of the initiative Mediaspree – here everything is going to become new and better. There are many heated discussions around this project, and once you start reading reports in the news and on websites, the feeling grows stronger that politics is working against the people here. This is the most obvious conflict about Mediaspree. But is there more about it? Many different people have been engaging against the project. Who is facing whom? This area is an important example for clashing ideas and people--and this is not only in the present. Twenty years ago, here as in other parts of Berlin, the Wall went down that separated the city for so long.
